DIY: Arm Knitting

Earlier last month, I decided to try my hand (er, arm?) at arm knitting. I love how chunky the stitch is and seeing how I'm a Beginner with a capital B, I figured I'd give it a whirl. After looking at 6 or 7 YouTube videos I finally found one I could follow. Maggie takes her time and explains each step.

Super easy, right? The best part is that you can achieve different looks by using different sized yarn. For the one above, I used 2 skeins of Isaac Mizrahi's Lexington yarn in Irving. Michael's was having a sale so I also stocked up on the Downtown and Gramercy Park to make cowls for Christmas gifts this year. These yarns are making me want to KNIT ALL THE THINGS!

Next up: GAP Seed Stitch Cowls!

Planning: The John Muir Trail

{photo by Geoffrey Byme}

It's no surprise that I've finally started doing some in depth research for planning my John Muir Trail trip. The JMT, as well as Wonderland Trail have been on my hike list for years. The west, more specifically the pacific northwest has always drawn me in. It's almost like I'm a carrier pigeon and it's constantly calling me home. For those of you not familiar with the JMT, it's a 210 mile long distance trail that stretches across the Sierra Nevada range and snakes through Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon and Yosemite. It also belongs as part of the Pacific Crest Trail. How does one plan for a long distance trail? Where do you even start? It's quite a daunting task. What month should I go? Which is the best pack? Bear canisters. Fly tarps vs. tents. Proper foot protection. Yikes. Throughout the next few months I'll be sharing my plan. Until then, check out the trailer for Mile... Mile And A Half, a movie about five friends who completed the JMT. You can also find the full movie on Netflix.

A December Wedding

December Wedding

A few months ago Jake asked if I would be his plus one to his cousin's wedding. And if you know me, you know I'm not one to pass up a night of drinks and dancing. I don't even remember the last time I found myself at a wedding. 2006 in St. John maybe? What the heck should I wear? Dress or dress pants? Thankfully, Target came to the rescue. I found this little gem all alone on a rack by herself. It's a size larger than I usually wear but I tried it on and it worked. Black tights, some black pumps and gold/silver toned jewelry should round out the outfit. Can't wait to kick my heels up!
