It's no surprise that I've finally started doing some in depth research for planning my John Muir Trail trip. The JMT, as well as Wonderland Trail have been on my hike list for years. The west, more specifically the pacific northwest has always drawn me in. It's almost like I'm a carrier pigeon and it's constantly calling me home. For those of you not familiar with the JMT, it's a 210 mile long distance trail that stretches across the Sierra Nevada range and snakes through Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon and Yosemite. It also belongs as part of the Pacific Crest Trail. How does one plan for a long distance trail? Where do you even start? It's quite a daunting task. What month should I go? Which is the best pack? Bear canisters. Fly tarps vs. tents. Proper foot protection. Yikes. Throughout the next few months I'll be sharing my plan. Until then, check out the trailer for Mile... Mile And A Half, a movie about five friends who completed the JMT. You can also find the full movie on Netflix.
